On March 10th of 2001 I was lucky enough to spend some time with Max Donson and interview him about his work and his philosophy. I asked him about the above piece "Paul".  The following excerpts are  from that interview           WinePhilosopher

Interview

WinePhilosopher:  A very beautiful and intriguing piece is “Paul”.  Even the name  “Paul” raises ones interest.  Why Paul?

Max Donson:   Well! Paul is a friend of my, someone I know and in many ways admirer in that he has a role that I suppose he decided on.  He’s from Hell’s Kitchen (a very tuff neighborhood in New York City) originally.  Paul has tattoos on allot of his body, but you wouldn’t see them unless he takes his shirt off, like in the summertime.  He’s bald and some people just look good bald, Paul is one of them.  Did you’ve ever meet someone that; when their right their right, and when their wrong their right too, that’s Paul.  If he were on the sliver screen the only role he could play would be Paul.

WP:    What is the wavy shape at the back of his head

Max:   Well… you know the impression someone leaves after they have gone or as they’re leaving. As stern as he appears in front is as flexible as he is, really!  He always leaves the message that this is only a front, and in the back of my mine is my true intention.  I decided to do something in his honor.
