Map of the Cote de Nuits
Map by Fredrick L. of France. This map and many more can be found on www.stratsplace.com
The map shows that, the Cote de Nuits (in dark green) is only a small area of land running roughly 15 miles long by 1 1/2 miles to only a few hundred yards wide at some points. This is where most of the famous Grand Cru, Premier Cru, and Commune wines (mostly red) are grown. Wines like Romanee-Conti (4 3/4 acres), La Tache (15 acres), Bonnes-Mares (38 acres), Chambertin Clos de Beze (38 acres), and the list just goes on and on. It's like reading a "who's who" on the guess list of the Oscars. In most cases these wines deserve the fame they receive. The Grand and Premiers Crus along with some of the commune wines reach levels of breed, depth, complexity, with layered aromas and flavors that not many other wines in the world could ever hope to reach. The vineyards of Hautes-Cotes de Nuits and other surrounding vineyards produce lighter and simpler wines, at reasonable prices. Map of the Cote de Beaune Click!
