Artist: Sam Carroll and Deanna Yesko
In 1999, in pursuit of an independent study project while enrolled at the
Savannah College of Art and Design, Sam Carroll met Deanna Yesko. The two
developed a unique, multi-layered approach to producing works initially intended
for public installation that capitalized on Carroll's ongoing exploration with
Polaroid photography and the subsequent treatment of film sheets in a
manipulated exposure and development process. (Click
here! to see more) This process is interpreted , and
fundamentally replicated, in the pairs collaborative compositions. The tactile effects that are achieved in Yesko's and Carroll's paintings provoke the eye. Each work's uniquely blended layers of paint create unusual detail, which manifests itself differently at varying distance. the highlights, shadows and texture that result with each composition compels the viewer to their own distinctive interpretation of each underlying photograph's subject matter.
