To many of us the subject of Italian wine can be quite complicated and confusing.  Italy is a vast ocean of wine with many regions, all having their own types of wines, wine making methods, grape varieties, and of course cuisine.  This book does a great job of putting all these wines into a palatable and understandable format, while taking the mystery out of understanding Italy’s Wine Laws, its classifications of wine, such as DOC, DOCG, VdT, and IGT, reading Italian wine labels, and more.  An entertaining book that also gives one a good sense of Italy’s culture and people.  The chapters can be read in any order or from cover to cover.

“Vino Italiano is the only comprehensive and authoritative American guide to the wines of Italy. It surveys the country’s wine-producing regions; identifies key wine styles, producers, and vintages; and offers delicious regional recipes. Extensive reference materials—on Italy’s 300 growing zones, 361 authorized grape varieties, and 200 of the top producers— provide essential information for restaurateurs and wine merchants, as well as for wine enthusiasts.  Beautifully illustrated as well as informative, Vino Italiano is the perfect invitation to the Italian wine experience.”    Amazon.com
While exploring Italy, region by region not only are the wines covered but also each region’s cuisine with recipes by Mario Batali (from “Molto Mario” on the Food Channel) and Lidia Bastianich.  How can you have Italian wine without Italian food?

cover        The World Atlas of Wine  by Hugh Johnson

List Price: $50.00
Our Price: $35.00
You Save: $15.00 (30%)

This book is excellent for beginners, as well as those already familiar with wine. The author; Hugh Johnson is one of the top wine writers in the world, and one of my personal favorites.  Well written and beautifully laid out with great photographs and some of the best maps of wine growing regions that I have seen.  It is a pleasure to read.  Visiting wine growing regions has heightened my knowledge, and appreciation of wine, but most of all, my enjoyment of drinking it.  I feel that this book offers the next best thing to actually traveling wine country.

Mr. Johnson covers the history of wine, vineyards and winemaking.  He explains choosing, storing, aging, and serving wine.  The major wine growing regions of the world (and lesser know regions like Hungary, New York State, Cyprus, etc.) are covered in an entertaining and informative way; there is also a chapter on Spirits.   No wine lover should be without this book.       WP

Our Price: $7.99

This no-frills “get down to business” book is written by one of the most well known wine critic in the world; Robert M. Parker Jr. I have been reading and using Mr. Parker’s reviews as a buying guide for many years.   As with any wine reviewer there will be reviews you don’t agree with, but all in all his reviews and his rating system, are excellence.

Besides great reviews and great wine buying tips, this book gives one the a small taste of each wine producing area, and the best produces within it.

This book covers most of the world’s wine producing countries.  For each area it gives a map, and a brief description of the wines, grapes used, winemaking styles, the current market conditions, and what to buy.  He reviews wine in all price rangers and includes the current price of each wine.  This book can help cut thru lots of trail and error wine buying and save you from wasting money on wines you could end up disappointed with.             WP

Great Wines Made Simple: Straight Talk from a Master Sommelier
by Andrea Immer

List Price: $25.00
Our Price: $17.50
You Save: $7.50 (30%)

This book is a must for anyone who has ever been intimidated by a snobby wine waiter in an expensive restaurant, handing you a wine list the size of “War and Peace”.  This book shows in plain and simple language, how to buy or order wine with confidence and satisfaction.  It explains the “Big Six” basic styles of wine taste. It also shows how to read wine labels.

The Author, Andrea Immer knows her wines and shares her knowledge with us, in a style that cuts thru all the stuffy wine snob jargon, and makes it easy to master the ins and outs of choosing a good wine on any budget. I love the way she explains wine tasting and breaks down the complex world of wine tasting to a simple, and easy to understand format.

So fellow wine lovers, buy this book, read it, and let it help you to navigate your way thru any wine list, to find a wine that you and your guests will enjoy.        WP
